Arternal pricing by plan
These US dollar prices come from arternal.com/pricing, checked October 21, 2026. Arternal's own page now publishes rates, although directory listings such as Capterra and G2 may still say request pricing or show no price. Check the vendor page before comparing quotes.
| Plan | Per user per month | Artworks and artists | Smart Mail sends per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $95 | 500 artworks and 50 artists | 300 |
| Principal | $195 | 1,500 artworks and 200 artists | 1,000 |
| Expert | $325 | Unlimited inventory | Unlimited |
The limits matter as much as the seat price. Count your stored works and represented artists before choosing a tier. Ask how sold works, archived records and artist records count toward those limits rather than assuming your current exhibition list is the whole inventory.
What Essential includes
Essential includes a complete CRM and sales pipeline, online viewing rooms, invoicing, basic reports and email support. You upload your data yourself. Its 500 artwork and 50 artist caps are separate constraints, so a gallery can outgrow the plan through artist records even while its artwork count remains below the ceiling.
What Principal adds
Principal is marked most popular. It adds migration support, viewing room analytics tracking, advanced reporting, Mailchimp integration, priority email and chat support, an iOS app and custom fonts in viewing rooms. The higher inventory limits and 1,000 Smart Mail sends may justify an upgrade; check your actual mailing volume first.
What Expert adds
Expert removes Smart Mail and inventory limits. It includes advanced viewing room customization, custom viewing room URLs, concierge migration from multiple sources with data mapping, an admin dashboard with user permissions, custom sales reports and expedited support with dedicated account guidance. Permissions and complicated migration needs can make this tier relevant before inventory becomes the deciding factor.
What Arternal costs for one, three and five users
Multiply the seat rate by everyone who needs access, then by twelve. These subscription totals exclude websites, custom URLs and payment fees. Annual payment is available, but the published rates do not establish a separate annual discount.
| Team | Essential monthly | Essential yearly | Principal monthly | Principal yearly | Expert monthly | Expert yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 user | $95 | $1,140 | $195 | $2,340 | $325 | $3,900 |
| 3 users | $285 | $3,420 | $585 | $7,020 | $975 | $11,700 |
| 5 users | $475 | $5,700 | $975 | $11,700 | $1,625 | $19,500 |
A director, registrar and sales associate on Principal therefore need a $7,020 subscription budget. A five person team on Essential pays $5,700, but that lower total only works if its inventory and artist counts fit. Budget for the tier the gallery needs throughout the contract, including planned intake.
Websites and custom viewing room URLs
Arternal Websites costs $200 a month with any plan. It includes custom build and design, hosting with your own domain, custom fonts and a brand kit, SEO and priority website support. Add $2,400 to the annual budget if you want the vendor to build your site.
Custom viewing room URLs cost another $50 a month on Essential and Principal and are included on Expert. That is $600 over twelve months. Decide whether you need a designed website, branded viewing room URLs or both, and get the scope written into the quote.
ARTERNAL Pay fees on a painting sale
Payment fees are separate from the subscription. For a $12,000 painting paid in North America, the published rates produce these charges.
| Payment method | Published fee | Fee on $12,000 |
|---|---|---|
| Credit card | 3.4% plus $0.30 | $408.30 |
| Affirm | 10% plus $0.30 | $1,200.30 |
| ACH | Flat $30 | $30 |
The card calculation is $12,000 multiplied by 0.034, plus $0.30. Affirm is $12,000 multiplied by 0.10, plus $0.30. Use the payment methods collectors actually choose when estimating your costs; a subscription comparison alone misses these charges.
In the EU, cards cost 1.9% plus EUR 0.25. SEPA costs 0.8% up to EUR 45,000, plus 0.1% above that amount. Confirm the applicable regional terms if you take payments across markets.
What to ask before signing the contract
Rates are based on a 12 month contract term, with monthly or annual payment available. Paying monthly is a billing choice, so ask whether the contract can end before twelve months. A gallery that tracks software and shipping renewal dates in contract management software should record the signed term and notice requirements alongside the payment schedule.
Ask when billing starts, how renewal works, whether seats can be removed during the term and what happens if inventory exceeds a cap. Confirm migration scope, data export and any charges in writing. No onboarding fee is listed, which is a reason to ask rather than assume every setup task is included.
Arternal's FAQ says most galleries are operational within about two weeks. Treat that as a planning reference and ask about your own source files, image library and contact history. Essential uses self upload; Principal includes migration support; Expert offers concierge migration with data mapping.
Per user pricing compared with a per gallery plan
Gallerists prices plans per gallery with seats included. For a five person team, the Gallery plan includes 2,500 works and five seats at $74 a month billed yearly, totaling $888 a year. Monthly billing costs $149 a month, or $1,788 over twelve months.
| Five person team | Monthly subscription | Yearly subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Arternal Essential | $475 | $5,700 |
| Arternal Principal | $975 | $11,700 |
| Arternal Expert | $1,625 | $19,500 |
| Gallerists Gallery billed yearly | $74 equivalent | $888 |
| Gallerists Gallery billed monthly | $149 | $1,788 |
The art gallery software pricing page lists the Gallerists plans. Its art gallery crm sits alongside inventory from one photo, including a tombstone, palette and catalog description draft, offer PDFs, consignment, invoicing and CSV export. Its online viewing rooms include view tracking.
Gallerists does not process card payments, run newsletters or build custom websites. If those functions belong in your next system, include their value in the comparison. Lower subscription costs matter only if the gallery can still carry out its daily work.
Prepare the comparison around your own workflow. List the jobs each person performs, the inventory size you need and the services you already buy elsewhere. A gallery with a working website and an established mailing tool may put more weight on inventory and collector records.
When Arternal is the better choice
Arternal deserves a close look if you want built in payments with Affirm, a designed website, Mailchimp integration or an iOS app. Expert's concierge migration can also matter when inventory and collector history sit in multiple sources that need mapping before staff can work confidently.
During the demo, follow a real artwork from inventory through a collector conversation, viewing room and invoice. Ask to see the payment workflow and migration approach you intend to buy. Compare those tasks with your current process before accepting a higher recurring bill.
Include the registrar in that review. Check whether they can find a work, correct its details and prepare the documents used for a sale. Have the sales associate look at collector history and follow up tasks, then identify which plan includes the functions they need.
